Your Local Move – Step by Step

Moving day is finally here! It should be an exciting day and filled with emotions since you are finishing a chapter and starting a new one in your life. To have a successful move, you need to be well prepared, organized and also ready to handle anything that comes your way. We are here to help ease the stress, to remind you of things you need to do, and to provide information so you’ll know exactly what to expect when moving day arrives.

BE PREPARED

The more prepared and organized you are, the faster the movers will complete your move and less costly it will be for you. If you are packing your own boxes, make sure that all the boxes are packed and ready to go before the movers arrive.

Have extra boxes, packing supplies and tape in case additional packing is needed.

Have all the important documents, valuables, passports, jewelry, cash, insurance papers, or birth certificates with you.

Mark all boxes clearly to indicate what room they belong to.

Have an essential box ready and marked with everything you will need for your first 24 hours in your new home. This box will be the first box you open at your new place.

Any items that should not be moved, must be separated and clearly marked for the movers to identify.

STEP BY STEP – WHAT TO EXPECT ON MOVING DAY

Movers will arrive and after greeting the foreman, they will ask to do a walk through your home with you. You will need to inform them anything that they need to know about the move. Example: If some items don’t need to be moved, or if you need them to stop on the way to pick up or drop off furniture, if you need help packing something specific, etc.

After the walk through, the foreman will prepare a new estimate (even if it is the same as you already signed when you hired the service) and will have you sign it with the Bill of Lading, Packing page and a few other pages.

While you are handling the paperwork with the foreman, the rest of the crew will start wrapping all the furniture with moving pads to protect the items and also your house. They will take the beds apart and any other items that cannot be moved without disassembly. All items will be loaded in the truck including the boxes. At Elite Moving & Storage, will make sure to stock the items bottom to top to assure that not much shifting and movement will happen during the drive.

After all your stuff is loaded, you and the foreman should do another walk through the house to make sure that nothing was left behind. Make sure to open every cabinet and check every room before leaving, as it will be costly to come back.

Now the movers will be driving straight to your new home. Feel free to follow them or have them follow you, just keep in mind that the truck drives slower.

Upon arrival to your new home, the foreman will ask to tour the property to know exactly where each room is and they will start unloading. The movers will unload all the furniture and will place them in each room accordingly. They will remove all the moving pads and assemble the items that were taken apart. If the boxes are labeled with the room name or description, they will be placed in the right room. On the contrary, all the boxes will be placed in one spot designated for boxes.

Once all your items are in each room: Congratulations! Your move is complete.

We know that moving is stressful, but if you are well prepared, organized and hire a professional moving company, your move will be a success. Hiring a professional moving company will make your moving process smooth and easy.
