Protecting Your Belongings During Your Move
At Elite Moving & Storage, we understand that your belongings are more than just items — they represent your home, memories, and investments. While our professional movers take every precaution to safely pack, load, transport, and unload your possessions, we also offer moving protection options to provide added peace of mind throughout your move. Every move includes basic moving protection by default, with additional coverage options available for customers who want enhanced protection.
Moving Protection Options with Elite Moving & Storage
Released Value Protection (Included)
Released Value Protection is the standard protection included with your moving estimate.
- Cost: Free — included automatically with every move
- Covers items that are lost or damaged while in our care at a rate of $0.60 per pound, per item
- Compensation is based on the weight of the item, not its replacement value
- Does not cover natural disasters
This option is best suited for customers moving items with lower monetary value and minimal risk.
Full Value Protection (FVP)
For additional protection beyond Released Value Protection, customers may choose Full Value Protection (FVP).
This coverage may include:
- Repair of damaged items when possible
- A settlement based on depreciated value if repair is not feasible
- Coverage selected for the entire shipment, not individual items
- Cost: Based on the total value selected and the size of the shipment
- Does not cover natural disasters
This option is popular for customers who want stronger protection without purchasing third-party insurance.
Full Replacement Value Insurance (Third-Party)
For maximum protection, customers may purchase full replacement value insurance through a licensed third-party moving insurance provider.
This option is ideal for:
- Customers who want their items insured for full replacement value in the event of damage
- High-value furniture and electronics
- Antiques, artwork, and specialty items
- Long-distance or complex moves
- Customers seeking protection that may include natural disasters, such as flooding or fires
Full replacement value insurance allows items to be repaired, replaced, or reimbursed at current market value, subject to the third-party policy’s terms and conditions.
How to Choose the Right Moving Coverage
Choosing the right moving protection depends on the value of your belongings and the type of move you are planning.

- The total value of your household goods
- Items that are difficult or expensive to replace
- Whether your move is local, long-distance, or interstate
Our moving coordinators are happy to explain your options and help you select coverage that fits your needs and budget.

- Notify Elite Moving & Storage as soon as possible

Frequently Asked Questions
Is moving insurance required?
Released Value Protection is included automatically. Additional coverage options are optional but recommended for valuable or fragile items.
What is the difference between Released Value Protection and Full Value Protection?
Released Value Protection is free and provides limited compensation based on weight at $0.60 per pound per article, while Full Value Protection cost additional fee and offers repair or settlement options based on item value.
Is Full Value Protection the same as insurance?
No. Full Value Protection is a form of mover liability coverage. Full replacement insurance is provided separately through a licensed third-party insurer.
Does moving protection cover natural disasters?
Released Value Protection and Full Value Protection do not cover natural disasters. Third-party insurance policies will cover it all.
Do I need coverage for a local move?
Even local moves carry risk. Additional protection is recommended if you are moving valuable or fragile items.
Can I insure individual items only?
Full Value Protection is typically selected for the entire shipment, not individual items. Third-party insurance will allow item-specific coverage.
What items are commonly excluded from coverage?
Certain items may have limitations or exclusions. Your moving coordinator will explain these before your move.
How do I file a claim if something is damaged?
You will need to document the damage, notify us promptly, and submit a claim form. Our team will guide you through each step.
Is coverage different for long-distance or interstate moves?
Coverage options are the same for local moves within IL and the Long Distance Moves. The only difference is the time period you can file the claim after the delivery.
When do I need to choose my moving protection?
Coverage must be selected before your move begins. Changes cannot be made after loading starts.
